Preventing Abuse of Older Persons Who Live in the CommunityThe Elder Abuse and Neglect Program, under the authority of the Elder Abuse and Neglect Act (320 ILCS 20/1 et seq.), responds to reports of alleged abuse, neglect or financial exploitation of persons 60 years of age and older. The program provides investigation, intervention and follow-up services to victims. Reports increase each year, as the older population grows and awareness of elder abuse increases. The program stresses the mentally competent older adult’s right to make their own decisions.
