About the Campaign

The Illinois Department on Aging's Office of Elder Rights, is pleased to offer this Elder Abuse Awareness Campaign Tool Kit to elder abuse provider agencies and Area Agencies on Aging throughout the state.

This tool kit was developed to help you raise awareness of elder abuse in your communities. We hope you will use these materials to let everyone know that elder abuse is a serious issue that affects all of us.

How you can use the material in this kit:

  • This kit is not designed to be given as a whole packet. Instead, consider printing or photocopying and distributing appropriate sections to religious, civic, and other groups.

  • Take time to review the material in this kit. Decide how your agency can best make the public aware of elder abuse. Additional promotional items are available for this use. To order additional supplies, please complete the order form found in the Break the Silence Publicity section.

  • Plan ahead. News releases should be mailed or taken to television station assignment editors, radio station news editors, and local newspaper managing editors in advance of an event.

  • Localize information. Your letter or news release has a better chance of getting noticed if you include facts about your community. Highlight local efforts and activities.

  • Coordinate the use of materials in this kit with other organizations, such as AARP, and others interested in the elderly.
