2001 DuQuoin State Fair

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Illinois Department on Aging Director Margo E. Schreiber is encouraging families to visit the "First Heat" Senior Center at the DuQuoin State Fair August 25th through September 3rd to enjoy entertainment and special events coordinated by the Department. The center is air–conditioned and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

"We’re looking forward to another great fair in DuQuoin," Schreiber said. "We have information to share and some fun acts lined up that are sure to please people of all ages. We encourage people to stop in, relax and get some relief from the heat."

Schreiber said the center will host exhibits and health screenings each day. In addition, daily performances will be featured beginning at 11 a.m. Performances will range from gospel singing and other vocal groups to presentations by the local Humane Society and AARP. A "Senior Prom" will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. Thursday, August 30th, and will feature the RSVP Band from Southwestern Illinois College. Refreshments, a cake walk and the crowning of a King and Queen will highlight the event.
