FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "Senior Day" at the Illinois State Fair is set for Monday, August 11 SPRINGFIELD The Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA) will host "Senior Day" at the Illinois Building during the State Fair in Springfield on Monday, August 11. The air-conditioned building, which is near the main gate on the state fairgrounds, is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free on “Senior Day” for people 60 years of age and older. Some special happenings are set for "Senior Day". The first is a seminar at 10:15 a.m. called Understanding Fibromyalgia a chronic widespread pain condition, followed by a performance by singer Monica Hay at 11:15 a.m. Seniors will take stage at 1:00 p.m., to compete during the 2008 Illinois State Senior Spelling Bee. "Senior Day" marks a perfect opportunity for State Fair attendees to learn more about the programs and services offered by the Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA). "We’re looking forward to a great week of fun while offering seniors and their families a chance to learn about the Department on Aging. There will also be staff on hand to explain the programs offered through the State such as the Governor’s prescription drug program, Illinois Cares Rx, in-home care programs, elder abuse prevention tips, and much more," said IDoA Director Charles D. Johnson. Entertainment in the Illinois Building will highlight each day of the State Fair, which runs August 8-17. Some of this year’s fun includes an amateur senior talent show August 9.
